PATRICIA CASEY -
SCENTED GARDENS
FOR THE BLIND
OPENING ON TUESDAY 3RD AUGUST AT 6PM

Scented Gardens for the Blind will be opened by Owen Craven, Deputy Editor Artist Profile Magazine on Tuesday the 3rd of August from 6 - 8pm.
Patricia Casey seamlessley melds old world craft techniques, crochet and lace with photographs printed on cotton fabric, in her latest body of work Scented Gardens for the Blind. She muses that, ‘there is no definitive truth in memory,’ the elasticity of memory being a consistent theme in her work.
Drawing with stitch over desaturated images of the natural world, her photographs become the evidence of the real past and the stitch an embellishment of actuality.
Her work is an ephemeral synesthesia, with titles such as The Smell of the Sun and The Sound of Blue transporting the viewer to a sensory memory-scape. Sometimes haunting and often nostalgic the work of Patricia Casey hovers between reality and extrapolated memory.
Winner of the HeadOn Photographic Portrait Prize in 2006, Patricia was also a finalist in the Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2002 and 2005 and the National Photography Prize at the Albury Regional Gallery in 2010. She has exhibited overseas in China and America and extensively across Australia, including the Queensland Centre for Photography in 2009 and 2010.
